Dementia Care
Dementia is a chronic condition that causes gradual changes in the person’s function, cognitively, behaviourally and emotionally.
If you have a relative with dementia you may find some help on these pages with information about ways to respond to the person who has dementia in a ‘person-centred’ manner. We have help sheets and links that family carers will find useful including links to the Alzheimers Australia and international links.
Person-centred and Relationship centred approaches
We know that the old behaviour management approaches do not provide effective or appropriate solutions for people with dementia today. Psychosocial knowledge, including the person-centred and relationship centred approaches are a vast improvement and offer much to be hopeful about when caring for someone with dementia in your family.
Dementia affects the whole family. We can help with individual and group sessions to help you problems solve and work through difficulties. Caring about your own mental and emotional wellbeing is important if you are to stay healthy for the long journey.
Our newsletter is a source of regular FREE information that may be of assistance to you.
