Person Centred Care for people with dementia:
Basic Level
This training session provides a basic introduction to a Person Centred Care approach to relating to people with dementia. On completion of the Basic Level participants may wish to complete the Advanced Level.
Outline
This 3 hour session covers:
- What is it like to be treated as a person?
- Enriched model of dementia
- Well-being and Ill-being
- The five needs of the person with dementia
- Negative caring behaviours
- Positive caring behaviours
- Creating well-being in dementia
- ‘Homework’ tasks
Purpose
This training is designed to focus staff attention on the personhood of each individual with dementia so that they may return to their workplaces able to maintain a work focus that recognises the unique individuality of the person with dementia, to appreciate and adjust themselves to the perspective of the person with dementia and complete the tasks that must be performed in their care work.
